Default 600/smite question.

Why do 600 monks have Spirit bond AND SoA? SoA can be maintained permanantly so you surely wouldnt need heals?

Because to tank multiple groups of foes at one time you need to be able to live. There is a certain point where Spirit Bond in itself can't keep you alive. So, SoA reduces the damage you take to Zero for a few seconds to kill stuff off and keep you alive in the time being. Also it can be used for pure laziness. Protective Spirit, Spirit Bond, Agro, Spirit Bond, Shield of Absorption, and stand there and look pretty for a few seconds.

SoA can only be maintain if you go the lengths to keep it up and you would need heals as for SoA reduces the damage every hit, but every time it's reapplied it redoes the action.

60-5=55
55-5=50
50-5=45
45-5=40
40-5=35
35-5=30
30-5=25
25-5=20
20-5=15
15-5=10
10-5=5
5-5=0

With 600Hp each time you use SoA you will take 330 damage. Spirit Bond heals that 330 damage.

Ya, eating 0's for awhile is quite nice, and takes some pressure of you energy wise if your fighting smaller groups and cant afford to spam 10E Spirit bond.

I use it because I'm lazy tbh. It's a real crutch when you've agro'd 2-3 mobs in HM and if you fail to keep up SB they will murder you in about 1/10 of a second.

First of all SoA is mainly used when facing melee monsters. In my experience while facing a bigger group with warriors and/or sins in it it's nearly impossible to stay alive while only spamming Spirit Bond cos they have faster attack speed, so SoA soaks up that beggining damage until most of them die making it easy to maintain Spirit Bond

So use SoA until most are dead and then use SB?

And sometimes, if i fail to maintain SB due to interruption or something, SoA can keep my ass alive with enough time to cast SB once again.

As explained above even if you can keep SoA up everytime you recast it the damage reduction goes back to 0. So lets say you keep SoA up for 11s with one enemy attacking every 1s

1s hit -5 damge
2s hit - 10 damage
3s hit -15 damage
.....
10s hit -50 damage
reapply SoA before it expires
1s hit -5 damage
2s hit -10 damage

so as you can see you will need to be able to heal the damage done when reapplying SoA which is where spirit bond comes in.
